30th May 2018 was Dartington Hall Trust’s “Community Day”. For the second year, Devon Baroque directors, Persephone Gibbs and Andrew Wilson-Dickson, played an ‘open door’ recital in the Great Hall. The audience age ranged from new-born to pensioner, and Andrew and Persephone engaged everyone with their relaxed chatting about the music, and their virtuosity and musicianship in playing. The highlight was CPE Bach’s duet – Sanguine (Andrew) and Melancholy (Persephone) in which the artistry was not only musical but also dramatic, with sighs and impatient huffing from the two protagonists!

Many of the audience stayed behind at the end of the performance to chat to the players, and learn more about the instruments and music. Quite a full stage, as the photos testify.

The rain may have poured on Dartington, but spirits were high in the Great Hall.
